Homeschool Performing Arts Day
About our Homeschool Performing Arts Day
For homeschool families who want serious arts education without piecing it together lesson by lesson, Homeschool Performing Arts Day brings it all under one roof. Every Monday from 10:00 AM to 2:30 PM, students spend the day at LyriCo studying voice, theatre, dance, and instruments alongside other homeschoolers, guided by our professional faculty. They build real skills, make lasting friendships, and finish every semester on stage. LyriCo is Gainesville’s conservatory for the performing arts, and this program brings that professional standard to your homeschool week.
Welcome to LyriCo
Your first Monday, August 17, is a trial day. Students get real instruction in every section, rotate through the full day, and experience each class before they decide. You do not commit to your four classes until that day. Once your child has chosen, two Large Ensemble and two Small Group, they keep that schedule for the rest of the semester.
Every class needs a minimum number of students to run. If your child has their heart set on a particular class, encourage their friends to sign up for it too. The more students who choose a class, the more likely it is to run, and the more fun it is to be in. The full schedule is confirmed once enrollment is in, and our team will help build the best possible day from the classes that run.
These classes continue into the spring. Students who begin this fall can return for Level 2 and keep building on what they started.
Our Large Ensemble Classes
Choose Two
- Choir Sing, harmonize, and make music with a group. Students develop blend, ear training, and ensemble awareness through weekly rehearsal.
- Musical Theatre: Voice and acting together. Students rehearse and stage a one-act musical for the December showcase, building confidence, collaboration, and real stage presence.
- Percussion Ensemble Students learn rhythm, coordination, and the fundamentals of playing together as a group. Loud, fun, and deeply musical.
Our Small Group Classes
Choose Two
- Piano Fundamentals: An introduction to the piano in a small group setting. Students learn note reading, technique, and basic repertoire.
- Rock Band Fundamentals: Students form a band and learn the basics of drums, guitar, and bass together. A high-energy class built around playing real music.
- Dance Fundamentals: Students learn foundational movement, rhythm, and choreography in a structured and encouraging class environment.
- Acting and Playwriting: A look at character work, presence, and the craft of acting, paired with writing and performing your own scenes and short plays.
- Creative Music Lab: An introduction to songwriting from the ground up. Students learn how songs are built and leave with original work of their own.
- Vocal Performance Lab: A focused small group class on solo vocal technique. Students develop tone, range, and performance skills in a supportive setting
- Violin Ensemble: Small group strings for new and continuing players. Instrument rentals are available through Gainesville Violins, with trial violins kept on site.
FAQ
What are the age ranges?
The Performing Arts Day will host homeschool children 8-16.
How long is the Performing Arts Day?
The Performing Arts Day runs every Monday from 10:00 AM to 2:30 PM.
Do I need to stay for my child’s lesson?
You are welcome to drop off your student and return before the day ends. Drop-off is handled on a per-student basis and may be adjusted at LyriCo’s discretion based on conduct.
How many students in each group class?
Our Large Ensemble classes, Choir, Musical Theatre, and Percussion, are open to every enrolled student. Our Small Group classes are kept intentionally small, generally five to ten students depending on the discipline. Every class needs a minimum number of students to run, so if there is a class your child loves, encourage their friends to sign up for it too and help it fill.
Do you have any performances?
Yes. The whole semester builds toward our Performance and Party Day on Monday, December 14. Students take the stage for their families, the Musical Theatre group premieres its one-act musical, and the choir and instrumental groups perform as well.
How long do classes run?
The fall semester runs sixteen weeks, from the first Monday on August 17 through the Performance and Party Day on December 14. Classes continue with a spring semester beginning in January, so students who start this fall can advance to Level 2.
