About our Intro to Rock Band Program
Intro to Rock Band is an 8-week group course for beginners who want to experience the thrill of playing music together—while trying out every role in the band.
Each week, students will rotate between guitar, bass, drums, keys, and vocals, so they can discover which instrument they enjoy most. Along the way, they’ll learn how to rehearse, listen, and perform as part of a real rock group. We’ll focus on teamwork, timing, and stage presence while playing classic and contemporary rock songs. By the end, you’ll be ready to jam with confidence—no matter which instrument you choose to stick with.
- Week 1 – Meet the Band & Basic Groove: Get introduced to every instrument in the band and learn the basics of how to make a sound on each one. Play a simple groove together as a group.
- Week 2 – Drums & Rhythm: Spend the week on the drum kit and percussion instruments. Learn to keep time, play a steady beat, and add basic fills.
- Week 3 – Bass & The Groove Foundation: Discover how the bass works with the drums to create the backbone of a song. Practice simple bass lines to popular rock rhythms.
- Week 4 – Guitar Riffs & Chords: Learn power chords, single-note riffs, and how to play in time with the rhythm section.
- Week 5 – Keys & Song Textures: Experiment with rock keyboard sounds, from classic organ chords to synth leads. Learn how keys can fill out a band’s sound.
- Week 6 – Vocals & Stage Presence: Practice singing into a mic with confidence, matching pitch, and adding rock energy. Learn how to work the stage and interact with the audience.
- Week 7 – Choose Your Role & Dress Rehearsal: Pick your favorite instrument from the rotation. Rehearse the full set list in your chosen role, polishing transitions and group timing.
- Week 8 – Live Band Performance: Perform as a rock band for your classmates, friends, and family, showing off what you’ve learned and your chosen role in the band.
