About Intro to Piano
Intro to Piano is an 8-week group course designed for beginners who want to start playing music right away while building a strong foundation in technique and music skills. You’ll learn how to find your way around the keyboard, read simple music, and play with both hands together. Each week adds new skills and songs, with a focus on making music from the very first class. By the end, you’ll be able to perform a complete piece with confidence.
- Week 1 – Getting Started: Meet the keyboard, learn finger numbers, and play your first notes.
- Week 2 – Exploring the Keys: Discover note names and simple rhythms while learning short, fun songs.
- Week 3 – Playing in Position: Learn basic hand positions and play easy melodies and patterns.
- Week 4 – Reading and Playing: Begin reading simple music and playing with both hands together.
- Week 5 – Expanding Skills: Add new hand positions, notes, and rhythms to your playing.
- Week 6 – Putting It Together: Combine melody, harmony, and rhythm into fuller-sounding songs.
- Week 7 – Practice and Polish: Refine your timing, coordination, and musical expression.
- Week 8 – Sharing Your Music: Perform your class piece for friends and family to celebrate your progress.
FAQ
How old does my child have to be to start taking music lessons?
Music lessons are great at any age! But we focus on primary instruments starting at around 5.
Do you offer instrument rentals?
Yes we do! Most of our instrument rentals are $25 a month, or $35 a month if you need an amplifier. No security deposit, but a minimum 2 month rental to give you time to pick the perfect instrument for you with the help of your teacher.
Do I need to stay for my child’s lesson?
You are welcome to drop off your child and return a few minutes before their lesson is done! If you would like to sit in on your child’s music class, we always have an open door policy and you are free to sit in at any time.
How long does it take to learn an instrument?
There is no set answer of how long it takes to learn an instrument. With regular practice, a basic level of playing can be accomplished in a few months. Most of our students take lessons on a long term basis because they want to be constantly improving and they find the lessons enjoyable.
How many students in each group class.
Classes range from 5- 8 students. Class size varies to make sure all students get individual attention.
Can I watch group classes?
Due to space constraints, and for all the student to feel a sense of community, we do not allow individuals other than participants be in the room during the time of the lesson.
How much do classes cost? What's included?

All books, level wristbands, and access to our knowledge base and scheduling software are included.
Do you have any perfomances?
Yes we do! For music students, we have two big events every year (typically one in the winter, and one in late spring). We also offer smaller performance opportunities throughout the year as well.
